Being ill on holiday abroad can be distressing and you may be unsure of where to turn for help.
But what should you do if you fall ill on holiday abroad?
Here at Your Holiday Claims, our experienced team of holiday illness claims experts have put together a list of some of the most important steps you can take if you are ill on holiday abroad.
Seek medical advice on holiday
We would always recommend you seek medical advice whilst you are on holiday. If you suffer symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea, visit a local pharmacy for advice on what medication you may need to take.
If at any point you begin to suffer dehydration it is important to inform your hotel that you would like to be seen by a doctor.
Keep any receipts
You should request receipts for any medication you have purchased or any payments made for a visit from a doctor.
These can be used to recover any expenses you have incurred whilst you were ill on holiday abroad.
Report your holiday illness to your holiday representative
It is important to make your holiday representative aware of your illness. If you are not provided with a sickness form, we would always advise that you request one. This will ensure your tour operator has a record of your illness and could speed up the process of making a claim on your return home.
Exchange contact details with other guests
If you are aware of other guests at your hotel who have fallen ill, exchanging contact details could strengthen any claim you bring.
If a number of holidaymakers are affected by illness at the same hotel, you may be able to bring your claim as part of a group holiday illness claim. This often makes it much more difficult for tour operators to deny liability for the outbreak.
Get a health check from your GP
When you return to the UK you should book an appointment with your GP for a health check. Your GP may also carry out tests to determine the cause of your illness.
