We are sorry to read more reports of illness, almost two months after we wrote our last article on the ClubHotel Riu Bambu.
This is the same hotel where our legal experts helped a West Midlands holidaymaker receive £2,135 in compensation after he contracted salmonellosis at the resort.
Reports on TripAdvisor say âplease do not book this resort.â
Holidaymakers appear not to be impressed with standards at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu and have said âThomson this does not measure up.â
It is not only standards of cleanliness which have come under fire, amongst complaints it was noted that the drinks dispensers were broken, crockery was chipped and dirty, alcohol was watered down and after the sprinkler system was used there was a smell of faeces.
However, the major concern appears to be with the food. Guests have said it was âinedibleâ and that they have suffered from food poisoning.
One couple said the food was âawful, stale, old and rotten.â After consuming food and drink in the hotel they became severely ill with the gentleman involved suffering for four days and his wife for 10 days. She also suffered significant weight loss. They sought hospital treatment and both were diagnosed as suffering from Cholera.
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced solicitor at Your Holiday Claims said: âIt is disappointing to see that we reported on this hotel just two months ago and yet holiday makers are still having their holidays ruined. It would appear that both Thomson and the hotelier have failed to adequately address the on-going issues.â
âCholera is a bacterial infection and can be contracted after consuming contaminated water or food which may have come into contact with contaminated water. Symptoms are diarrhoea, sickness and stomach cramps and without treatment it can be fatal.â
âIt is vital that detailed investigations take place to identify the root cause of the outbreak and to ensure that it is dealt with. Holiday makers should not be exposed to any illness, never mind such a serious illness as Cholera.â
If you are you at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu and suffering illness:

- Keep receipts for anything you purchase in relation to your illness.
- Report the issue to the representative and the hotel and take a copy of your complaint.

If you have returned and are still suffering illness:
- Book an appointment to see your GP and provide a stool sample if asked to do so.

- Do not accept any compensation offered by your tour operator. They often undervalue claims and if you attempt to deal with them directly, you may accept a woefully inadequate offer.
