Hygiene experts from the UK have been flown out to Sentido Perissia Hotel in Side, Turkey, after hundreds of British holidaymakers have been struck down by illness.
Tour operator Thomas Cook has confirmed all booking at the all-inclusive hotel will be suspended for the next week and alternative accommodation will be provided for holidaymakers who have already booked to stay there.
Hotel representatives yesterday met with over 100 British guests who demanded action to be taken over the illness outbreak, believed to have started several weeks ago.
The main swimming pool in the resort has now been closed and holidaymakers have been urged to stay in their rooms.
Reviews are being posted onto TripAdvisor and a Facebook page has been setup for those who have been affected.
Tour operator Thomas Cook said last night: âWe can confirm that a number of customers at the Sentido Perissia,Turkey, have reported a stomach upset lasting 24-48 hours.
âPreliminary indications suggest that this is of a viral nature.
âWe immediately arranged for an independent UK hygiene consultant to carry out a comprehensive review of the hotel.
âAs a precautionary measure, new arrivals up to 28 August will have their holiday in alternative accommodation.
âWe sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law Your Holiday Claims, a division of Farnworth Rose Solicitors commented: âIt would appear that there has been a breakdown in food handling preparation or hygiene practices at the Sentido.
“I am being told by clients by clients who have instructed us to assist them with their claims against Thomas Cook, that food was undercooked and that poor hygiene practices were noted. These are both possible causes of this large outbreak and IÂ am pleased to see that Thomas Cook is now fully investigating matters.
âI would encourage anyone who has suffered illness during their holiday at this resort to contact us for free legal advice and help to make a successful claim for holiday illness compensation and to also make a successful claim for any financial losses they have incurred too.â
