Sickness and diarrhoea plagues Iberostar Punta Cana guests
A British holidaymaker has contacted Your Holiday Claims for help making a Dominican Republic holiday sickness claim after her entire family fell severely ill at the 427 room Iberostar Punta Cana.
Other stricken guests have taken to review site TripAdvisor to express their concerns regarding hygiene practices at the Bavaro hotel.
âThe food at the buffet was beyond awful,â states a holidaymaker from Indiana adding that âeverytime I ate at the buffet I either left with a stomach ache that led to getting sick or had to make frequent trips to the restroom.â
In a particularly alarming statement, the American holidaymaker claims that âthe buffet is not air conditioned and the food is left out in the extreme heat. Flies were flying over all of the food at all times.â
Another recent guest reports that one member of their holiday party was âthrowing up for 8 hours straightâ and expresses great surprise that the hotel served meals at lukewarm temperatures.
One hotel guest simply urges others to âstay somewhere elseâ and claims to have been served reheated, leftover food and âraw chicken on two separate occasions.â
Your Holiday Claims regularly successfully settle claims for holiday illness in the Dominican Republic. In one of our more recent cases, our head of travel law Anne Thomson, helped a Darlington husband and wife receive £3,270 in damages after their Dominican Republic anniversary celebrations were curtailed by gastric illness.
Commenting upon the reports of illness at Iberostar Punta Cana, Anne said: âI am both saddened and concerned to learn that holidaymakers have fallen ill during stays at this resort.
âI am particularly concerned by the reports of insect contamination as it is well known that flies can transmit disease. Similarly, the reports of undercooked meat are alarming as if meat, especially chicken, is not cooked thoroughly, holidaymakers could find themselves at risk of contracting campylobacter or E. coli food poisoning.
âAt Your Holiday Claims our helpline remains open to anyone who has suffered from illness symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting on a package holiday at Iberostar Punta Cana within the last three years. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff can advise you on the merits of your case and answer any questions you may have regarding the claims process.â
