Tell me more about Travellers diarrhoea at Jaz Mirabel Park
YHC client, Denise Brothers, fell ill during the second week of a 14-night all-inclusive stay at the five-star resort.
Her symptoms were such that she was admitted to the onsite partially constructed clinic only to discharge herself owing to the squalid conditions. After being seen by the hotel doctor in her room, the Kent holidaymaker was prescribed multiple medications.
Unfortunately, despite this medical attention, Mrs Brothers remained unwell for the remainder of her ruined holiday and was still suffering on her return home leading her to consult with her own GP.
In the following months, Mrs Brothers endured bouts of gastric distress that still trouble her today and found that she was particularly susceptible to infections. Her GP advised the severity of her travellers diarrhoea had left her immune system compromised and diagnosed her with post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome also.
Speaking to the specialist claims team at YHC, Denise is in no doubt that her holiday illness was the result of poor hygiene standards at Jaz Mirabel Park. Â She states that hygiene standards were lacking throughout the hotel, with several of her fellow guests also complaining of gastric distress.
In particular, Denise told us that flies and birds were often seen around the food served at the pool bar and the swimming pool water was not clean and clear.
How the specialist solicitors at YHC won this case
Mrs Brothers instructed Anne Thomson, head of travel law at YHC on a no win no fee basis.
Anne successfully negotiated a £6,000 compensation pay out with tour operator TUI UK Ltd without issuing proceedings. The award included amounts for ongoing prescription charges and also reflected Denises loss of enjoyment, and pain and suffering.
Commenting on the case, Anne said: âIt is so rewarding to have been able to help Mrs Brothers receive compensation after her experience at Jaz Mirabel Park.
âUnfortunately, here at YHC, we regularly hear from holidaymakers, who like Mrs Brothers, continue to suffer ill effects from holiday illness, months, if not years, after their ruined holiday.
âFor this reason, I would always advise anyone who falls sick on a package holiday to seek medical attention and report their illness to their holiday rep as soon as they are able to. Exchanging contact details with other afflicted hotel guests can also prove beneficial and could even lead to a group action.â
