Thanks to the specialist solicitors at Your Holiday Claims, a holidaymaker from Norwich has successfully recovered £2,750 in compensation after gastroenteritis ruined her family holiday at the five-star Rixos Sharm el Sheikh.
Michelle Hanton-Rhys flew out to the 695 room Rixos Sharm el Sheikh with her husband and children in October 2014, eager to enjoy a fun-filled family trip packed with numerous excursions.
Unfortunately, Michelle’s action-packed agenda turned into an itinerary of illness and IV treatments as severe gastroenteritis took hold.
Speaking to the legal experts at Your Holiday Claims, Michelle recalls being struck by agonising stomach cramps followed by diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting just days into her Egyptian holiday. As the illness progressed, Michelle states that she felt increasingly faint and realised it was imperative that she sought medical assistance.
“My blood pressure was 70/40 and I was close to passing out immediately prior to the visit of the doctor to our room.
“He diagnosed gastroenteritis and placed me on a drip. I had to return again at 10pm that night for further treatment.
“The doctor also administered antibiotics via the drip on each occasion. He also prescribed a cocktail of drugs that I had to take for the remainder of the holiday.”
Michelle lost out on 8 precious days’ holiday with her family and was to continue to suffer from illness symptoms until early November.
Michelle is clear that poor food hygiene on behalf of the hotel was the cause of her suffering.
With her family holiday ruined by illness and certain that the hotel was to blame for her symptoms, Michelle decided to take legal action, appointing Anne Thomson, head of travel law at Your Holiday Claims.
