Compensation awarded: £4,000
Date of Travel: June 2013
What happened at Dreams Punta Cana?
YourHolidayClaims client, Mary Robinson travelled to the four-star Dominican resort in late July to celebrate a close family friends wedding.
Unfortunately, before the big day arrived Mary slipped upon entering her hotel room bathroom and struck her head on the side of the bath. The impact was such that Mary was rendered unconscious.
Whilst speaking to the expert solicitors at YHC, Mary described how she was found by her friend and she immediately felt unwell and then started to vomit as a result of her fall.
The hotel doctor was worried about Marys head injury and sent her to the local hospital for further investigations. After a head scan she was given the all clear and discharged with medication and advice.
Marys injuries meant that by the day of the wedding her face had swollen and she also had a black eye.
âI was very upset about how I looked at the wedding and my accident put a dampener on proceedings,â she adds.
âI tried to look the other way on photographs so that my injuries could not be seen. I looked like âelephant mans sisterâ and my grandchildren kept away from me because of how I looked.â
Upon Marys return to the UK, she also consulted with her own GP as she had been left with a lump above her eyebrow and she was suffering from headaches.
How the expert accident solicitors at YHC won this case
After issuing court proceedings against tour operator Thomas Cook, injuries abroad specialist Tracy Stansfield secured £4,000 in a no win no fee hotel accident claim for the stricken Hull holidaymaker.
This amount was awarded despite Thomas Cook not admitting liability.
Commenting on the case, Tracy said: âI am delighted with this result and I trust that Mary is too.
âHoliday accidents can quickly turn a dream getaway into a nightmare. I would always advise anyone who is unfortunate enough to suffer from a slip or fall on a package holiday to seek medical attention and to report their accident to their hotel rep.
âTaking photographs and recording any witness contact details can also prove useful should you wish to make a claim for compensation on your return.â
