Just days into their holiday at the Oriental Resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, both were struck down with severe stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhoea.
Gastroenteritis ruins Thomas Cook holiday in Sharm El Sheikh
The couple booked their two week break in July 2013 through tour operator Thomas Cook. Â Five days in to the holiday Mr Magana Salgueiro began to experience âsevere diarrhoea up to 12 times a day stomach cramps and inflammation of the abdomenâ.
Mr Trevelyan also suffered severe cramps and severe diarrhoea, nausea, sickness and he complained of exhaustion.
Upon arrival home both sought advice from their GP. They were asked not to attend their doctors surgery in the event that they may be contagious. Travellers diarrhoea was diagnosed and antibiotics were prescribed.
Mr Magana Salgueiro did not fully recover until mid-September 2013. Mr Trevelyans gastric problems continued for longer. He was âstill not 100%â by August 2014 although thankfully the ongoing symptoms were slowly improving.
Mr Trevelyan witnessed âbirds on the terrace eating from the pasta station and plates, as well as cockroaches swarming a designated food areaâ.
