A husband and wife from West Yorkshire have successfully received £5,600 in holiday illness compensation after their May 2014 holiday to Hurghada, Egypt was ruined by gastric illness.
Michael Crosby, and his wife Sara Crosby, looked forward to a four star break to soak up the sun at Thomas Cooks Stella Makadi Gardens.
The flagship hotel, a part of the larger Stella Makadi Beach and Gardens resort, promises a host of 6 restaurants, nine swimming pools and an array of resort activities to its all-inclusive guests.
Yet for ill-fated Mr and Mrs Crosby there was little opportunity to take advantage of the resort facilities as symptoms of food poisoning left them suffering illness for much of their stay.
The sickness stricken couple were alarmed by standards of hygiene and reported regularly witnessing âbirds flying around the dining roomâ and food left to go cold or spoilt at the hotel buffet.
West Yorkshire based Mr Crosby was the first to fall ill, suffering 12 unpleasant days of stomach cramps, diarrhoea and nausea, commencing just 4 days into the couples two week holiday.
The second week of their stay saw Mrs Crosby fall ill aswell. Upon returning home to the UK, Mrs Crosby was diagnosed with gastroenteritis by her GP and unable to return to work for two weeks.
Gastroenteritis Compensation for Mr & Mrs Crosby
Sue Robinson, an expert holiday illness claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âGastroenteritis is highly contagious and commonly spread when bacteria found in faeces is transferred to the mouth through food.
âWithin busy holiday resorts, slips in hygiene such as food left uncovered and open to contamination from birds and pests can very quickly lead to widespread illness among guests.
âWe have helped numerous British holidaymakers who have fallen ill at Stella Makadi in recent years and are pleased to have assisted Mr and Mrs Crosby in successfully making a claim.â
With the help of Your Holiday Claims, Mr and Mrs Crosby have successfully recovered £5,600 in holiday illness compensation from tour operator Thomas Cook.
Mr Crosby commented: âWe are extremely pleased to have recovered compensation from Thomas Cook and would like to thank Sue and the team at Your Holiday Claims for all their help.â
