A couple from Hull have successfully received £4,320 in total compensation thanks to Your Holiday Claims after an outbreak of illness ruined their much anticipated stay at Azul Sensatori in Mexico.
Our clients booked an 11-night stay at the five-star Azul Sensatori (also known as Sensatori Resort Mexico) for late June 2015, looking forward to taking in the many sights of Mexico through planned excursions.
Unfortunately, all of our clientsâ holiday plans were put on hold as nausea, diarrhoea and stomach cramps struck. The stricken couple claim that they were not alone in their suffering as a number of their fellow guests also reported experiencing the same crippling illness symptoms, thought to be caused by the parasite Cyclospora Cayetanensis entering the hotelâs food chain.

âOther people were insisting on being moved to another hotel as the âbugâ was rife,â explains one member of the afflicted pair.
âThe day we left there were more people transferring to another hotel. We were extremely disappointed with the whole experience as it was the most expensive holiday we have booked yet we never saw anything of Mexico as we were simply too ill,â they add.
Speaking to the experts at Your Holiday Claims, the disgruntled couple claim that hygiene standards at the resort were far from five-star as described. Our clients report that cold and lukewarm food was frequently left uncovered at the buffet for prolonged periods of time with drinks appearing to be heavily watered down.
The couple from Hull also claim that bedding and swimming pools were not cleaned regularly. Alarmingly, the hotel was also said to be without any running water for a number of hours one day.
Although our clients reported their illnesses and concerns to their tour operator representative and staff at the hotel, they were left frustrated by their responses:
âWhen we complained to Thomson resort rep we were offered 50 USD AGAINST room bill â did not have anything on bill as was never well enough to go on any trips or use hotel facilities such as the spa.
âOn return, we emailed the hotel 3 times. After we placed a review on TripAdvisor, the hotel asked us to contact privately yet we no had response at all.
âWe emailed Thomson who acknowledged issues except illness.â
Having spent nearly £3,000 on their ruined Mexican holiday and still ill on their return home, the couple turned to industry leaders Your Holiday Claims for expert legal advice regarding making a claim for holiday illness in Mexico.
£4,320 settlement success for stricken couple
Specialist solicitor Sue Robinson handled the duoâs claim for compensation on a no win no fee basis. Sue was able to recover £4,320 for the pair in a successful settlement with tour operator, Thomson.
Commenting on the case, Sue said: âI am so pleased that I was able to help the stricken couple claim the compensation they deserved following grossly inadequate responses from both the hotel and Thomson.
âSadly, it appears that history is repeating itself and we are once again hearing that Cyclospora Cayetanensis is rife in the Riviera Maya and Azul Sensatori.
âI strongly encourage anyone who has fallen ill at Azul Sensatori with illness symptoms such as sickness and diarrhoea within the last three years to contact Your Holiday Claims as soon as possible to see if you can make a no win no fee claim for compensation.â
Our clients added: âI must say this has been an excellent outcome ⦠and itâs all thanks to Sue as we could easily have not bothered with taking this forward.â
