A Portsmouth family have successfully received £3,800 in compensation following a ruined family honeymoon at Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana.
Newlywed Kelli Bickerton contacted Your Holiday Claims for specialist legal advice after both she and her 4-year-old son, Henry, were struck by sickness at the five-star Dominican Republic resort.
All six members of the Bickerton family travelled to the Thomson promoted resort in December 2015, eager to celebrate and make the most of the precious time together as a family.
Unfortunately, their plans came crashing down as mother Kelli fell ill on the second day of their 8-night stay with nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Things soon went from bad to worse for the Portsmouth family as the following day, 4-year-old Henry was struck by diarrhoea.
Speaking to the legal experts at Your Holiday Claims, Kelli is certain that poor hygiene standards at the Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana were responsible for their illness. She labels the restaurant âdirtyâ and claims that uncovered food would often be recycled from one meal to the next and served at cold or lukewarm temperatures.
Kelli also remarks that cutlery and plates were frequently chipped and dirty. Similarly, she remains disappointed that their hotel room was not cleaned properly throughout their stay.
Despite reporting her concerns to hotel staff, Kelli claims that she received little assistance, adding that the Thomson rep went home on annual leave during their stay.
At the close of their ruined holiday, the Bickertons returned home deflated by their experiences at the Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana. Remarkably, Kelli was to continue to suffer from repeat bouts of nausea and diarrhoea for a number of weeks, only returning to her pre-holiday state of health in January 2016.
