At Your Holiday Claims we have recently helped a British holidaymaker who contracted a gastric illness at the Thomas Cook promoted MinaMark Resort obtain £3,500 in compensation.
Kathleen Smith, 72 from Rawtenstall in Lancashire, stayed at the MinaMark Resort in Hurghada, Egypt. She had booked the family holiday with her daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter.
However, what they had planned to be a luxury Egyptian getaway was soon ruined as Kathleen Smith fell ill with severe abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, and drowsiness.
Mrs Smiths symptoms continued for 12 days, resulting in her contacting her local GP on her return home. The doctor confirmed that she had contracted acute gastroenteritis during her stay at the MinaMark Resort for which she was prescribed medication.
Mrs Smith informed us that much of the food served at the hotel was left uncovered so that flies were free to land on it.
She contacted Your Holiday Claims to pursue a claim for gastroenteritis on holiday against her tour operator, Thomas Cook.
YourHolidayClaims help Lancashire grandmother receive £3,500 in compensation
Mrs Smith said of the illness: âIt really was a horrible experience. The illness ruined our holiday, falling so ill during a holiday is not something you expect to happen.â
âId like to thank Anne for the support she offered me in helping to settle the claim.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âWe are delighted to see Kathleen Smith obtain compensation for the very nasty illness she contracted.â
âSuffering gastroenteritis can very easily ruin a holiday and the symptoms are not pleasant at all. Holidaymakers often require medical treatment either whilst on holiday or on their return home. This can cause a great deal of distress, especially when visiting hospitals where English is not spoken.â
âOne frequent cause of gastroenteritis is eating food which has been undercooked or that has been contaminated with bacteria. It is vital that all hotels have and maintain high standards of food hygiene. Any lapses can cause an outbreak of illness amongst guests.”
