£3,000 payout for “once in a lifetime” holiday ruined by illness outbreak in Mexico

The legal experts at Your Holiday Claims have helped a Leeds holidaymaker successfully receive £3,000 in damages after an alleged outbreak of gastric illness plunged her “once in a lifetime” Mexican getaway into a holiday from hell.

After saving hard for a year, Ellen Wilson jetted off to the Riviera Maya in early June 2015 with high hopes for a relaxing and memorable stay at the five-star Azul Sensatori Resort (also known as Sensatori Resort Mexico).

Little did Ellen know that her stay was to indeed prove memorable, but for very different reasons than she first imagined.

Just two days into her 14-night holiday, Ellen was struck by severe stomach cramps followed by diarrhoea.

Despite self-medicating, the Leeds holidaymaker remained severely unwell throughout her stay and was unable enjoy the hotels five-star trappings that she had saved so hard for.

It soon became apparent to Ellen that she was far from alone in her suffering as conversations with fellow hotel guests revealed that others were battling “sickness and diarrhoea.”

Speaking to the specialist solicitors at Your Holiday Claims, Ellen is certain that poor hygiene standards at the Azul Sensatori hotel were to blame for the outbreak of illness. She remains angry that food was consistently recycled and served uncovered at dangerous lukewarm temperatures, inviting flies.

In a particularly alarming comment, Ellen claims that “flood water from a tropical storm leaked down the restaurant roof and onto the food.”

Ellen is also highly critical of Thomsons response to her plight and reports that even though the tour representative and restaurant staff were aware of her condition, her illness was simply “overlooked.”

At the close of her ruined holiday, the stricken guest returned home exhausted and still suffering from repeat illness symptoms. Astoundingly, Ellen was to remain unwell for a further month, totalling her illness ordeal up to 6 weeks of misery.

“This was the first and last time I will go on an all-inclusive holiday,” she states, labelling her ruined holiday “a total waste of money.”

£3,000 settlement success

Ellen turned her anger into action and pursued a successful claim for holiday illness in Mexico with industry leaders Your Holiday Claims.

Acting on a no win no fee basis, experienced solicitor Sue Robinson, negotiated a settlement of £3,000 with tour operator, Thomson.

Commenting on the case, Sue said: “I am delighted with this outcome for Miss Wilson. Illness and poor hygiene are simply inexcusable within a package holiday and tour operators must be held to account for any failings.

“At Your Holiday Claims, we continue to be contacted by British families who have been affected by outbreaks of illness at this resort and would encourage those who have also suffered to speak with us to receive specialist, legal advice.”
