Holiday illness specialists at YourHolidayClaims have recently been contacted by British holidaymakers who have reported falling ill with severe diarrhoea at the Secrets Royal Beach, Punta Cana.
This comes after reports of outbreaks of food poisoning at the hotel in both 2015 and 2016. More recently, holidaymakers have taken to TripAdvisor commenting on cases of sickness and poor food hygiene standards.
One recent visitor stated:
âJust arrived back home after 10 nights. We both came down with very bad stomach pains/cramps &Â diarrhoea.
âMy wifes fine now but Im still very unwell, 6 days now and counting! We spoke with several other couples and found out we were not alone.
âCant pinpoint what was/is the cause but narrowed it down to a few things. The buffet food was always lukewarm, chicken was undercooked on a few occasions, the ice is made from purified water (not bottled) and its used in all cocktails and drinks.â
Others have stated that the “buffet area [was] covered in flies” and “foods that had a liquid substance all had a layer of film on them where they had been sitting there forever”.
