A British family holidaying at Ova Resort in Turkey have reported that one of their party has “tested positive for salmonella” following a ruined stay at the hotel.
The three star hotel, promoted by Thomas Cook and First Choice, promotes âbuffet-styleâ catering and unlimited drinks âserved for a minimum of 12 hours per dayâ.
Busy hotels that cater for large volumes of guests, such as Ova Resort, can often be susceptible to outbreaks of illness if good food safety practices are not upheld.
Salmonella food poisoning is contracted by eating raw or undercooked food such as chicken or eggs, which have been contaminated by the salmonella bacteria.
The infection often spreads through utensils and equipment which has been used for both raw and cooked food and can lead to illness lasting for around ten days or even longer.
Here at Your Holiday Claims we have spoken with a holidaymaker who reported many others were also affected and commented âI am not the only family to have been ill at the Ova Resortâ.
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: “Salmonella can result to highly unpleasant symptoms and lead to holidaymakers missing out on a large part of their stays.”
“It is essential that the tour operators promoting the Ova Resort undertake a full investigation on the causes of the illness.”
“I would encourage anyone affected to seek expert legal advice on whether they could make a claim for compensation.”
