Holidaymakers have reported falling ill on holiday at the Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado in the Dominican Republic.
Visitors to the hotel have stated that doctors confirmed they had contracted salmonella food poisoning during their stay.
Despite many positive reviews, a number of holidaymakers have commented on TripAdvisor after falling ill at the resort.
One hotel guest said: âThe food was not great. The presentation was stellar, but the actual food quality was poor.
âOn our last day my husband and I began to suffer from with some mild tummy troubles. After ten days, I finally went to the doctor who ran tests, and salmonella was my confirmed diagnosis. My husband and I didnt eat anywhere besides the hotel, so the doctor said we probably got it from the resort.
âThis was very disappointing as it can take your body/digestive system a few months to get back to normal.â
Others have stated that âsanitary conditions are sketchyâ, after they âwitnessed chicken, pork, and beef left sitting in water by the grill in 90 degree tempsâ.
Another holidaymaker reported that they continued to suffer an illness on their return home from the resort.
They commented: âThe hotel was beautiful and the beach was so peaceful and quiet, however the only huge downside was that I returned home with a parasite.
âI was sick and on medication for a good 10 days upon my return and my doctor told me that I had most likely picked it up at the hotel since we didnt leave the grounds.
âApparently they really need to take better care of their food.â
