Recent visitors to the Thomas Cook promoted Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe hotel have taken to TripAdvisor to express their concerns after falling severely ill during their stays at the five-star resort.

One holidaymaker reported that her seven year old daughter was struck down with shigella and is now under observation at home.

She said:

“I travelled here with my husband and two kids aged 7 and 8. Yes the place is huge and beautiful and appears clean but the food is terrible and we all got sick with diarrhoea towards the end of our stay.

“My youngest was sick for seven days and was diagnosed shigella. She is now being monitored for a kidney disease that is caused by shigella because it attacks the kidneys.

“We are monitoring her kidneys with blood works and urine tests for the next week and praying she will be ok! Please, if you have plans to travel here, don’t! I urge you not to take the risk!! It looks great and has everything you think you want but it was not worth it”.

Another guest was hospitalised after contracting salmonella whilst on holiday at the resort. They said:

“Although the hotel is beautiful and very clean, I got very sick. I contracted salmonella and this is a food borne disease.

“I travel a lot and make smart food choices but I picked up a severe case of salmonella that required me to be in the hospital. I possibly picked it up from an omelette as the omelette station was very busy and the cook always seemed to undercook the omelettes.

“I was violently ill for two weeks and required hospitalisation. It took almost three weeks for me to feel better”.
