The most common symptom of Cyclospora is severe diarrhoea but affected holidaymakers could also suffer nausea, stomach cramps and loss of appetite.

What to do if you have suffered Cyclospora on holiday

If you have been diagnosed with Cyclospora after seeking medical attention you should report your illness to your tour operator representative as soon as possible.

They should fill in a sickness form and offer you a copy of this. If you are not offered a copy of the sickness form, ask your tour rep for one as this could be used to support any claim you bring when you return home.

Keep the receipts for any costs caused by your illness including medication, travel costs or trips that you have been unable to attend. You may be able to include these costs in your claim against your tour operator.

When you return home from your holiday we would always advise that you visit your GP. Even if you feel you are recovering from your symptoms, your GP may be able to help better identify the cause of your illness and offer the best treatment options.
