Poor hygiene and food linked to illness at Tirana Aqua Park Resort, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

Holidaymakers returning from the Tirana Aqua Park Resort in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, formerly known as the Sunrise Tirana Aqua Park, during July 2013 have reported suffering from severe diarrhoea and sickness, and many people have complained of cold sores.

The Tirana Aqua Park Resort is promoted by Thomas Cook Holidays among others. This hotel is a 3 star all inclusive and is located 1.5 kilometres from the beach. The hotel has 4 restaurants.

One holidaymaker said on TripAdvisor: âMy entire family and most people we spoke to were ill with stomach bugs. The food was terrible and many people were sending out for Mcdonalds.â

Anne Thomson, Head of the Holiday Illness Claims Department at Farnworth Rose said: âThis hotel is no stranger to complaints of food poisoning and gastric illness among guests. Farnworth Rose has previously been instructed by families who stayed there in 2010, 2011 and 2012 and it is shocking to see that problems still remain. Thomas Cook has settled the majority of the claims brought against them but some are still ongoing.â
