The travel law department at Your Holiday Claims has received a number of enquiries following a recent outbreak of illness reported at the Play Pesquero hotel in Holguin, Cuba.
Many guests, including wedding guests are said to have been affected and suffered symptoms of severe gastroenteritis. There have also been reports that both toilets in the public area were only cleaned once a day, despite being used by 600 guests.
The hotel, promoted by tour operator Thomas Cook and Direct Holidays is rated a 4 star hotel offering all-inclusive dining, including an international buffet restaurant and several a la carte restaurants, alleged to be operating below acceptable standards.
One gentleman from London who has recently returned from a stay at the Play Pesquero hotel warned âBe aware and consider againâ on TripAdvisor. He added: âAt this moment in time there is a sickness bug going around which has wiped out approximately 80% of the hotel with 18 people requiring IV fluids and a number have been admitted to hospital. This was confirmed to me by the numerous on site doctors following my families many visits to the onsite Surgery. In the last day or 2 the hotel have taken note and began to cover items in the food halls with cling film but the general standard of Hygiene in the hotel is very poor.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âWe are already instructed by a number of clients who suffered similar gastric illnesses during their holidays at this hotel in 2013.
âHolidaymakers who have returned from their stay at the hotel who have been diagnosed with salmonella food poisoning or any other type of gastric illness should report this to their tour operator and contact us on 0330 100 2851Â for help to make a successful compensation claim straight away.
âI hope Thomas Cook and Direct Holidays carry out a full investigation into the cause of the illness to prevent further outbreaks occurring.â
