The team at Your Holiday Claims has recently received an enquiry after two holidaymakers were affected by illness in Mexico.

The holidaymakers had travelled to the Grand Bahia Principe Coba in Riviera Maya when they were struck by illness.

We have previously reported on outbreaks of illness at this hotel in July and September of 2014.

During this time , visitors to the hotel reported experiencing “gastrointestinal problems” causing symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea.

More recently, holidaymakers have reported that they were served “cold” food during their stays.

One recent visitor commented on TripAdvisor, “Four out of four who made the visit became sick”. They added that the hotel “did not seem to understand how to control the problem”.

Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: “We are once again receiving enquiries from holidaymakers affected by illness during their stays at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba in Mexico.

“One of the most common causes of illness on holiday is consuming food which has been contaminated by bacteria such as salmonella, campylobacter, and E. coli. When food is served undercooked or lukewarm, holidaymakers are placed at risk of contracting a potentially serious illness.

“I hope that the tour operators and hotel management at the Grand Bahia Principe Coba will investigate the reports of illness at the hotel. It is vital that high food and hygiene standards are implemented and maintained in order to protect the health of all holidaymakers.
