The newly opened Excellence El Carmen has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In recent weeks, holidaymakers have taken to hotel review site TripAdvisor to complain ofÂ ruined Dominican Republic holidaysÂ at the resort.

One holidaymaker simply labels their stay ânot worth itâ after reportedly contracting food poisoning on the first night and remaining unwell for âthe rest of the trip”.

In a rather worrying report, another guest warned:

âAvoid this placeâ¦

âAfter gettingÂ food poisoningÂ three days into the trip, the ânurseâ that examined me told my wife that I was going to have a heart attack and that we should go to the hospital or fly home.

âAfter losing a day recovering from the lousyÂ food, we went back to see her and she gave the same recommendation. We flew home a day earlyâ.
