The newly opened Excellence El Carmen has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In recent weeks, holidaymakers have taken to hotel review site TripAdvisor to complain of ruined Dominican Republic holidays at the resort.

One holidaymaker simply labels their stay “not worth it” after reportedly contracting food poisoning on the first night and remaining unwell for “the rest of the trip”.

In a rather worrying report, another guest warned:

“Avoid this place…

“After getting food poisoning three days into the trip, the “nurse” that examined me told my wife that I was going to have a heart attack and that we should go to the hospital or fly home.

“After losing a day recovering from the lousy food, we went back to see her and she gave the same recommendation. We flew home a day early”.
