Why have fraudulent claims made the news?

Reports have circulated in numerous publications over recent weeks, which suggest that firms (sometimes referred to as cowboy firms) are targeting holidaymakers and suggesting they make fraudulent claims for holiday illness compensation.

It’s been revealed that these firms use touts to lure in tourists during their holidays, and convince them to fake a holiday illness so that the money made from a successful compensation claim can be split between the two.

Tour operators are reported to have sent investigators to hotspots where cowboy firms’ are operating, as they stand to potentially lose millions of pounds as a result of a rise in these fraudulent claims.
