We have recently received an enquiry from a holidaymaker who fell ill on-board the Fred Olsen Balmoral cruise ship.
The ship has just announced it is to return to Southampton early after an outbreak of âgastroenteritis-type illnessâ. It has been reported that at least 300 passengers were affected by the outbreaks.
The cruise operator said that the ship would be âsystematically sanitizedâ before departing for Madeira later and have offered guests partial compensation.
Holidaymakers have been left suffering symptoms including vomiting and diarrhoea while some have also had a temperature, headache and stomach cramps.
Retired engineer John Trowson, 86, described his stay on board the Balmoral cruise ship as âdreadfulâ. He said: âIt was absolutely horrendous. Dreadful. I was in a terrible state.â
âOne of the nurses who attended me said that Id had a bad attack of the norovirus and that it would take four days to get over it.â
âSeveral times a day the captain was saying more people were being infected. First we heard 75. Then it was 150. My best guess by the end was more than 300â.
This outbreak comes after we successfully helped 26 guests claim a combined pay-out of over £40,000 last year after they were struck down with norovirus while staying on the cruise operators Boudicca ship.
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, said: âIt is concerning to hear of another report of illness on board a Fred Olsen cruise ship.â
âHere at Your Holiday Claims, we have previously helped numerous holidaymakers obtain compensation after outbreaks of norovirus affected the Boudicca cruise ship over a number of months.â
âI would strongly encourage anyone who has had their cruise ruined by illness on-board the Balmoral to get in touch with us before accepting any offer made by the cruise operator. In many cases, an early offer to settle from cruise operators can seriously undervalue a claimâ.
