âWe were confined to our roomsâ: Holidaymakers reveal details of Holiday Village Tenerife turmoil
- Confirmed case of Cryptospordium reported by guest
- Guests claim children at the resort were ill with symptoms such as sickness and diarrhoea
- The Spanish hotels poor hygiene also heavily criticised by guests
The First Choice resort made national news in July 2015, following reports of â50 casesâ of illness ruining family holidays.
August has also seen several holidaymakers take to TripAdvisor to complain of similar symptoms.
A recent holidaying family reported both their son and daughter became extremely ill with sickness and diarrhoea at the resort and were forced to seek medical attention.
The distressed parent commented:
âWe were confined to our rooms for the rest of the holiday.
âWe met a lot of others too who had poorly children and had had to call a doctor out.
âOn arrival in the UK, our doctor advised to take our children to A&E where they were treated for dehydration.
âA stool sample revealed they were both suffering from cryptosporidium, a nasty parasite that lives in the intestines for 2-6 weeksâ.
A further guest reported on the hotel:
âStained sheets, sewage coming up into the bath, ants in the bath, dirty poolside toilets, pools closed due to children pooingâ¦it was awfulâ.
Our Head of Travel Laws opinion
âCryptosporidium is a highly unpleasant gastric illness which is often caused by faeces contaminated produce or water.
âIt is extremely concerning to hear reports that holidaymakers have been affected by cryptosporidium at Holiday Village Tenerife, especially following the widespread outbreak of illness in July.
âIt is absolutely essential that the tour operator take immediate action in investigating the causes so further holidaymakers are not affected.
