Ill guests take to TripAdvisor to complain about the Riu Varadero

Holidaymakers seem to be un-happy with standards at the Riu Varadero and have advised others to “be prepared” by taking “all possible medications you may need in event of illness.”

Comments about the pools include “the pool water was very hazy and did not appear totally clean!”

Visitors to the hotel have also said that the “Riu chain is no longer on my list as a resort to visit in the future.” Comments have been made regarding the cleanliness of the room, guests have said that “sheets were changed once in an eight night stay.” Rooms also seemed to have ants and cockroaches roaming around and guests were having to ask for water to be supplied in their rooms.

One holidaymaker has said that her 6 year old son became ill with “food poisoning” and required “medical treatment.”

The illness is thought to have been caused by the “poor at best” food. She said that the food was “recycled throughout the day.”

She also noted that staff members were re-using guests water bottles and she witnessed “a lot of cross contamination.”
