An outbreak of illness has been reported at the River Dart Country Park in Ashburton, Devon.
It is suggested that around 600 people left the site after 91 cases of sickness were reported. Norovirus is thought to be the cause of the outbreak of illness. A recent press release on the River Dark County Park website has now confirmed that norovirus was the cause of illness in two cases.
Norovirus is commonly known as the winter vomiting bug. It is one of the most frequent causes of gastroenteritis in the UK. Â Symptoms usually include nausea, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
Mark Simpson, managing director at the River Dart County Park, stated that the decision had been taken to close the park until the 18th August to allow for a deep clean.
Mr Simpson added that those who visited the site will receive âa full refund for the cost of their pitchâ.
On the River Dark County Park Facebook page, Emily Rudd commented: âWe camped last week and this bug wiped my two little girls, myself and my husband out.
âOur tent and bedding was ruined from all the sickness and in the end we cut our holiday short and came home.
âDisappointing as we have visited before and had a great holiday and wish to do so again in the future.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims commented: âReports are suggesting that around 90 people have been affected by suspected norovirus.
âIt does appear that the management at the River Dart County Park are doing everything in their power to ascertain the cause of this outbreak of illness. This is vital to ensure that the infection does not continue to spread.
âThe owner of the site has also taken the proper action by closing down the park in order to protect the health of its visitors.
âIf you were affected by the outbreak of illness at the River Dart County Park, we would be interested to hear from you as you may be entitled to compensation.â
