A holidaymaker, who recently travelled to the ClubHotel Riu Bambu in Punta Canta, Dominican Republic, was hospitalised during her two week stay due to suspected food poisoning.
Having previously stayed at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu and having recommended the hotel to friends and family, the holidaymaker was very disappointed to find that food and hygiene standards in the hotel had drastically changed.
On TripAdvisor, the lady said: âWe first went to this hotel 2 years ago with Thomson/First Choice and expected it to be the same as still sold this year as 4T Premium â wrong. I have heard that they are taking the status from this hotel because of poor hygiene and cleanliness issues.
âI spent most of the second week of my holiday ill in my hotel room which ended in me getting worse and so I was admitted to hospital and spent 2 days on a drip and with medication. I was discharged on Friday as I flew home the next day along with medication to continue taking. I am still not well after a week being at home.
âFood was cold and undercooked. Water was given out at mealtimes from a jug of which I am sure we were given tap water as it did not smell good.
âWe were given dirty beach towels â wasps in our wine at evening meal. We saw waiters putting all the dregs from coffee pots left after people had left breakfast tables â gathered them all up and poured them back into the boiler from which they continued to pour out of for the next unsuspecting guests.
âAfter eating cold, undercooked, inedible food from the buffet, we decided to try the speciality ones.
âI became ill after eating and drinking water possibly at the Asian restaurant and got worse after we had eaten at the Steakhouse 2 days laterâ.
After reading the reports, Tracy Stansfield, an experienced solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, said: âThis sounds like a truly horrendous holiday and what is so upsetting is that it is wholly preventable.â
âI hope the lady makes a full recovery and that the tour operators who promote and sell package holidays to this hotel carry out a thorough investigation to establish the cause of illness. No other guest should have their holiday ruined.â
âI would urge anyone that has encountered poor food and hygiene standards whilst on holiday to contact their holiday representative in resort. It goes without saying that anyone who has fallen ill whilst on holiday should seek medical attention straight away.â
âThe team at Your Holiday Claims can assist those that have suffered illness abroad to claim compensation and I would suggest that anyone who has fallen ill on holiday to contact us upon their return. We can then help them to claim compensation for their illness and ruined holiday.â
