Holidaymakers vent their anger over the RIU Yucatan online
- Confirmed Salmonella food poisoning diagnosis for former guest of the Mexican resort
- The holidaymaker was alarmingly hospitalised following the illness they suffered during their holiday
- Cases of Salmonella food poisoning at the hotel date back to Summer 2015
We are aware of a holidaymaker who has had to endure a confirmed case of salmonella food poisoning during their stay at the Riu Yucatan.
The afflicted traveller is claiming to have received hospital treatment in Mexico for severe diarrhoea and stomach cramps.
Returning tests have now revealed that a salmonella infection was the cause of their suffering.
Unfortunately, it appears that this holidaymaker is not alone when it comes to guests of the Mexican resort who have suffered illness during their stay.
Worryingly, TripAdvisor reports portray that illness outbreaks have been causing disturbances at the Riu Yucatan for a prolonged period of time now, as reports from 2015 disclose illness problems at the hotel at that phase.
Following a stay in September 2015, a former guest of the Thomson promoted resort claimed that their âhusband contracted salmonellaâ during their visit.
In addition to this, another distressed holidaymaker claimed that during their visit to the hotel in July 2015, her âhusband and 2 daughters became ill with sickness and diarrhoeaâ.
This former guest continued to explain how after suffering for more than 2 weeks with illness symptoms, tests revealed that her husband had contracted âa parasite from food poisoning on holidayâ.
The holidaymaker adds that âalthough the hotel seemed clean, there were birds that would fly through the open buffet at lunch time and steal foodâ.
Furthermore, more recent reviews of the Riu Yacarta describe the food as âhorrificâ and âshockingâ.
One poster claimed:
âI [ate] out every day as there was skins over foods, mixed yoghurtsâ¦and flies on food that they would take out and re-stirâ.
Another disgruntled guest added that ânothing tasted realâ, and that they âseriously wont ever be back just for this reasonâ.
Our Head of Travel Laws’ comments
âI am concerned to learn that British holidaymakers have been struck by an illness as serious as Salmonella at the RIU Yucatan.
âWe were previously instructed in February by a holidaymaker who was hospitalised after they suffered dehydration from food poisoning, which contracted at the resort. I am alarmed to see that this trend appears to be continuing over long periods of time.
âIt is not too late to make a claim for compensation if you have suffered from illness outbreaks while on holiday in the last three years. YourHolidayClaims can help you pursue a no win, no fee claim and receive the compensation that you deserveâ.
