Here at Your Holiday Claims weve been reading reports of a suspected outbreak of norovirus at the Pestana Carlton Hotel in Madeira.

Guests who stayed at the hotel throughout March this year have recently taken to TripAdvisor to review their stays, with a couple that were on their honeymoon reporting an outbreak of norovirus at the resort.

Their review of the Thomson promoted hotel reads: “We stayed here for the first few days of our honeymoon. Overall it was a pretty miserable experience.

“Upon entering our room, we received a notice that a bout of norovirus was spreading around the hotel. Although we were very careful, one of us fell very ill with a 48-hour stomach bug that effectively ruined our trip to Madeira”.

This wasnt the only report of illness at the five star hotel. Another guest reported falling ill during their stay, they said: “Arrived March 12, got a flyer in the hotel room about a spreading virus”, they went on to report that they suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea two days into their holiday.

Another guest took to TripAdvisor to make people aware of the outbreak while holidaying with his wife for their 30th anniversary. He said: “My wife and I are in bed at the hotel, I am almost over my bout of sickness and diarrhoea but my wife is a day behind me and is very unwell.
