Two British holidaymakers have had their honeymoon âruinedâ by illness at the Rixos Resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
Reports of illness on the hotel review website TripAdvisor have included holidaymakers suffering from gastroenteritis during their stay. Others who have fallen ill on holiday at the Rixos Resort have commented on witnessing poor food standards.
A newly married couple travelled to the Rixos Resort to enjoy their honeymoon but instead spent days suffering gastroenteritis.
Commenting on TripAdvisor: Â âMy husband and I chose this as our honeymoon destination but we will never return.
âThis is the worst hotel we have ever come across. My husband and I both spent three days of our honeymoon extremely sick with my husband having to be put on a drip as he was diagnosed with gastroenteritis which can be associated with food poisoning.
âOn one of the nights my husband and I ordered a pharaoh beer and his was noticeably watered down.
âI have to say the Rixos Resort ruined our honeymoon and for the price we paid it is extremely poor that no contact has been made.â
Gastroenteritis is an intestinal infection which causes holidaymakers to suffer symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea. In more serious cases, dehydration can lead to medical attention being required. Dehydration may be treated through replacing fluids with an intravenous drip.
Others who have fallen ill at the Rixos resort have stated that the food quality at the resort was poor. A holidaymaker from Suffolk said: âWe thought the food was awful!
âThe food was the same in the buffet restaurant all week (grilled fish, overcooked veg, and stew). I really struggled to find something other than the safe option of chips to eat.
âAnd just to top it off, I was ill for a week with severe diarrhoea from the day I got home.â
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, stated: âIt is saddening to read of a honeymoon ruined due to illness suffered on holiday.
âThere is a danger of illness when alcoholic drinks are watered down. Consuming contaminated drinking water can lead to serious illness and we advise holidaymakers to avoid tap water wherever possible.
âWe would hope that any complaints received in relation to sickness or drinks being watered down are fully investigated by tour operators and hotel management at the Rixos Resort.
âWe would urge anyone who has fallen ill on holiday at the Rixos Resort to contact Your Holiday Claims as soon as possible to discover whether they may be able to make a claim for compensation. Your Holiday Claims have successfully settled claims at this resort, recently helping a Norwich holidaymaker secure £2,750 in compensation after she was left on a “cocktail of drugs” due to severe gastroenteritis.â
