British holidaymakers have reported poor hygiene standards and outbreaks of illness at the Sonesta Beach Resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
Visitors to the Thomas Cook and First Choice promoted hotel have experienced symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps and diarrhoea. This has led to many critical reports on the review website TripAdvisor.
One holidaymaker stated that they there were aware of a number of other guests who were affected by illness.
They commented: âThe range of food available at the buffet is limited and repeated on a weekly basis and may have issues of hygiene as everyone you spoke to had stomach issues leading to clinic visits which lasted on and off the whole holiday.â
Others have reported suffering from âvery bad stomach crampsâ after eating food which âwasnt warm at allâ. A hotel guest added that they were affected by âdiarrhoea every day for the whole weekâ.
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented on the reports: âWe are concerned to once again become aware of cases of illness at the Sonesta Beach Resort.
âWe were contacted by holidaymakers in 2014 whose stays at the resort were ruined by illness and have previously obtained £2,900 in holiday illness compensation for one holidaymaker who contracted gastroenteritis during their stay.
âI would encourage anyone who has fallen ill at the Sonesta Beach Resort in the last three years to contact myself, or a member of our expert team to discover whether they may be able to make a successful claim for compensation.â
