Holidaymakers hit by food poisoning outbreak in Tunisia
A number of recent visitors to the Orangers Beach Resort & Bungalows have taken to TripAdvisor after experiencing undercooked food and unclean facilities.
One hotel guest stated that all but one member of their family contracted campylobacter during their stay.
They commented:
âThree out of four of us got campylobacter food poisoning.
âMy husband became ill on day six, my daughter became sick on day seven, and I became ill on day nine. The only person not to develop food poisoning was my son in law.
âI ended up in hospital when I came home and we all had to take antibiotics and take another week off work.
âThe food hygiene at the resort was appalling. Even though we all thought we were very careful, we were wrong.
âI dont blame the staff entirely, but we will never return to this resort.â
Campylobacter is a common cause of food poisoning within all-inclusive hotels. Contracting the infection often leads to gastroenteritis with symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea.
Campylobacter is often found in raw meat, especially poultry. When meat is poorly prepared or undercooked, there is a serious risk of illness. You can read more about making a claim for campylobacter on holiday here.
Comments from our holiday claims expert
âContracting campylobacter food poisoning can be very nasty.â
âIn this case, not only was the holiday ruined but further time off work was needed to recover.â
âI hope that in light of these reports, tour operators and hotel management will investigate the standards of food hygiene within the Orangers Beach Resort & Bungalows.â
âIf anyone has been affected by illness at the resort, we would urge them to contact our team as soon as possible. We may be able to assist in obtaining compensation for the illness suffered, loss of enjoyment, and any financial losses incurred such as medical expenses or loss of earnings.â
