Your Holiday Claims have been contacted by British holidaymakers who have fallen ill on holiday at the Sonesta Beach Resort in Egypt.
One couple, who visited the hotel in June 2014, fell ill during their stay and continued to suffer symptoms of illness on their return home.
In May 2014 we commented on reported outbreaks of illness at the Sonesta Beach Resort. One guests stated that their stay at the hotel was “like being in a prison”.
Visitors to the hotel have continued to comment on TripAdvisor after suffering sickness and stomach cramps.
A holidaymaker from Leeds said: “On the 4th day I came down with a stomach bug. We’re still unsure whether it was the pool water or some salad I tried at the Casablanca restaurant. I still can’t stomach anything more than breads, pasta etc. “
“My friends also became ill but recovered a week later. It’s a shame, because otherwise I would have recommended this place highly.”
Another visitor to the Sonesta Beach Resort from Glasgow stated that the illness they suffered continued on their return to the UK.
They commented: “Both my partner and I became ill during the holiday. We have been home 48 hours and I am still violently ill with an upset stomach and sickness.
“I think this may be due to ice in the drinks or the way the salad was washed. Also, there are a lot of flies around the restaurant and the food was never piping hot.”

“It would appear that there may have been a problem with the water at the Sonesta Beach and I would always recommend that holidaymakers only drink bottled water and avoid ice in drinks. This may help to reduce the risk of falling ill whilst on holiday.”
“However, holidaymakers are reliant on the hotel ensuring that high food and hygiene standards are adopted and that food is always prepared correctly.”
