British holidaymakers have been affected by outbreaks of illness at the hotel thought to be caused by poor food hygiene standards.

One return visitor described their stay as the “holiday from hell” after falling ill during their stay.

The holidaymaker reported that their winter getaway was ruined as they began to experience symptoms including “bad stomach pains and diarrhoea”.

They added that, for six days, they were unable to “eat more than a piece of bread” at the all-inclusive hotel. As they returned home, they continued to be affected by a “gastric” illness.

Others have described the food served at the MedPlaya Hotel Riviera as “desperately basic”.
