Gastroenteritis at Catalonia Bavaro Hotel

It appears that the new year has not got off to a good start for guests at the Catalonia Bavaro Hotel in Punta Cana as reports of a widespread outbreak of illness are emerging.

According to TripAdvisor reviews from this month, poor hygiene standards have left several guests bedbound and suffering from the symptoms of gastroenteritis.

“Frequent this place only if you … dont mind playing biological Russian roulette with your bowels,” warns one January 2017 holidaymaker who claims that gastroenteritis “affected, at one time or another, nearly half of our larger group of 30 people.”

“Avoid at all costs,” advises another recent guest before adding that “the food was really bad and got everyone in the family sick.”

The dedicated claims team at Your Holiday Claims have already helped British tourists recover compensation following similar outbreaks of illness in the Dominican Republic. Our client, Aaron OConnor was awarded £2,046 in damages after sickness and diarrhoea left him bedbound in the Caribbean.

Commenting on the reports of illness at Catalonia Bavaro Hotel, Anne Thomson, head of travel law at Your Holiday Claims said: “In our experience, contracting gastroenteritis on holiday is often the result of breakdowns in food or pool hygiene.

“I sincerely hope that the tour operators and hotel management work together and address the issues raised in the online reports in order to safeguard future guests.

“I would advise anyone who has experienced illness symptoms such as diarrhoea and vomiting at Catalonia Bavaro Hotel to seek medical attention – nothing is more important than your health. I would also advise that any illness should be reported to your tour rep and the appropriate sickness log completed.
