At Your Holiday Claims we have recently received an enquiry from two British holidaymakers who contracted suspected food poisoning at the Sharm Holiday Resort in Egypt.
Holidaymakers have commented on the review website TripAdvisor after they were affected by sickness bugs at the hotel and they experienced poor hygiene standards at the hotel.
One hotel guest described the Sharm Holiday Resort as an âabsolute health hazardâ. They reported that swimming pools were âdirty and cloudyâ and âfaecal matter was splattered up walls and in all communal toilets and left for several days.â
Another holidaymaker from Swansea commented: âMy mum was violently sick on arriving home. I had to call the paramedics out.â
âShe had food poisoning as well. My mum has been very ill and lost a lot of weight.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âWe are concerned by the reports of food poisoning at the Sharm Holiday Resort.â
âWhen standards of food hygiene and general cleanliness at all-inclusive hotels are poor, holidaymakers are at risk of becoming ill. Food poisoning can often cause gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach or bowels leading to symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea.â
âI hope that the tour operators and hotel management will seek to implement and more importantly, maintain high food and hygiene standards, in order to protect the health of all hotel guests.
âI hope that the tour operators and the hotel management implement and maintain high food safety and hygiene standards. Failure to do so, could expose others to illness.â
âI would encourage anyone who has fallen ill on holiday at the Sharm Holiday Resort to contact myself or a member of our holiday claims team for advice on all aspects of the claims process.â
