A British holidaymaker has recently contacted Your Holiday Claims after their party of two fell ill at the Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun, Mexico.
The five star hotel, promoted by tour operators including Thomson, has received criticism on TripAdvisor after guests have fallen ill experiencing symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea.
One holidaymaker commented that they fell ill on the third day of their holiday. They stated that they had ânever experienced this kind of illness before when in Mexicoâ.
The visitor to the hotel added: âBoth of my daughters and granddaughter ended up in hospital on IVs and antibiotics.
âThe rest of us received medicine from the house doctor. What are the chances that 9 of us all needed antibiotics and 3 needed to be hospitalised? We spoke to others at the hotel that had been sick and had medicine from the house doctor and gone to a clinic for medicine.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âIt is always very worrying to read of holidaymakers requiring hospital treatment on holiday.
âNot only can this be an incredibly distressing experience but can also lead to holidays being ruined and out of pocket medical expenses being incurred.
âAt Your Holiday Claims, we can help you obtain compensation for the illness you have suffered, the loss of enjoyment of your holiday and the out of pocket medical expenses incurred as a result of your illness.
âI hope that the tour operators and hotel management at the Riu Palace Peninsula will investigate the current reports of illness in order to prevent the further spread of infection.â
