Guests who have recently returned from the Dreams Vacation Resort have said that Thomas Cook should be ashamed with the conditions in the hotel and take appropriate action.
After returning, holidaymakers have complained about the poor standards of food and hygiene. One holidaymaker went as far as to say âI wouldnt let an animal stay at this hotel.â
The reviews on TripAdvisor suggest that poor management is also a problem at the hotel.
Hygiene also appears to be an issue with one guest saying âhaving travelled to many countries, of which many may not have the same strict hygiene laws that we have, I can honestly say this is the worst hotel that I have ever been in!â
Another couple noted that there was a âshortage of cleanersâ with rooms often being given a âsurface cleanâ only. It was reported in the public toilet near the bar âfaeces had smeared on the walls and floor.â
The food served was described as âpoorâ and alleged to have been served undercooked on many occasions.
If food is not cooked or reheated insufficiently it can cause diarrhoea, sickness, stomach cramps, fever and this in turn can lead to dehydration. It is therefore vitally important that food is served piping hot, that it is stored at a sufficiently high temperature and that staff members are fully trained in food handling and hygiene.
Amongst other holidaymakers complaining one couple said that they had the âdreaded stomach bug for four daysâ and that one of the party lost â7 kilosâ with both having âthree courses of being on a drip and medication.â
Another family of five in their review said âwe were expecting a little tummy trouble, but not to the extent that we suffered.â Within two days one party member fell ill, and then another âended up having three drips, the Doctor said it was acute gastroenteritis and dehydration.â
In the same review it was said that there was a âconfirmed case of salmonella the day before we arrived.â Four of the family members suffered illness at some point over the course of their holiday and âspoke to many guests who had been suffering from sickness and diarrhoea and had to go on drips!â
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced solicitor at Your Holiday Claims said: âThe reviews appear to suggest that something has gone very badly wrong at this hotel.
âIn one respect, it is reassuring to read that the Government Food Agency is involved and that representatives from Thomas Cook are at the hotel and investigating. Both Thomas Cook and the hotel management need to ensure that holidaymakers are kept fully abreast of all developments.â
âIt is very important that the source of the outbreak is pinpointed to prevent any further illness occurring.â
