At Your Holiday Claims we are currently reading numerous reports of illness at the Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.
British holidaymakers have commented on the hotel review website TripAdvisor after experiencing symptoms including âstomach cramps, fever, and diarrhoea.â
One return visitor to the hotel commented: âFirst week we both had stomach problems which caused us to stay in our room for 24 hours.â
Another hotel guest reported that they âcontracted E. coliâ during their stay. They added: âWe stayed two weeks and nearly everyone we spoke to were suffering or had suffered with gastrointestinal infections.
âSome poor people spending days in their bedrooms on drips.â
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, commented on the reports: âThe reports we have read regarding outbreaks of illness at the Sultan Gardens Resort are worrying.
âE. coli is most commonly contracted as a result of consuming food which has been contaminated with E. coli bacteria. This often causes symptoms of nausea, headaches, stomach cramps and abdominal pain and diarrhoea which can often be bloody.
âSerious complications can follow â it is rare but can happen. Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome or HUS can occur in cases where the E. coli O157:H7 strain is diagnosed â toxins get into the bloodstream and can cause injury to the kidney and sometimes kidney failure.
âIt is vitally important therefore that the tour operators and hotel management investigate the reports and ensure that high food and hygiene standards are met to protect the health of all holidaymakers.
âI would urge anyone who has fallen ill on holiday at the Sultan Gardens Resort to contact Your Holiday Claims as soon as possible for expert advice on the merits of making a claim.â
