Sickness stricken stays at Riu Guanacaste

“Food poisoning” and a “staph infection” are just two of the illness complaints that holidaymakers have levelled against Riu Guanacaste on hotel review site TripAdvisor.

In a particularly alarming report, one holidaymaker claims that food preparation was so poor, “this place would get shut down in a moment by any Health Inspector in the EU or the US.”

“Every aspect of food preparation, sanitation, selection, execution, and setting was poor.

“In every single restaurant (and especially the buffet room), there were gnats, flies, and/or fleas IN AND/OR ON THE FOOD, with no attempt by management to mitigate the situation.”

Other hotel guests have turned their attention towards the swimming pool with reports of a “foul smell lingering” around it common online.

According to one holidaymaker, inadequate pool hygiene led them to contract a “staph infection” that left them room bound for much of their ruined holiday.
