Reports suggest British holidaymakers have suffered âfood poisoningâ at the Hotel Costa Verde in Majorca, Spain.
Visitors to the hotel have commented on TripAdvisor after witnessing poor food and hygiene standards within the hotels restaurants. In desperation, some guests ate outside the hotel after recovering from illness, despite having paid for an all-inclusive holiday.
One holidaymaker reported that they and a friend suffered the âsickness/diarrhoea bugâ and that  they âheard other people in the hotel had it and wouldnt be surprised if it was the food.â
Another hotel guest from Cambridge commented: âMy friend and I have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Hotel Cost Verde.
âThe food is awful. After our first night of all-inclusive the following day my friend and I had possibly the worst cases of food poisoning we had ever had. It took a whole day out of our holiday and must have been the food as the only food we had eaten had come from the all-inclusive buffet.â
âWe paid for all-inclusive but obviously after food poisoning decided not to eat meals at the hotel. We have requested some sort of compensation from the company we booked it through but have heard nothing yet.â
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel law at Your Holiday Claims, said: âReported cases of food poisoning are always concerning and not only do they cause distress they can quite easily ruin a holiday.â
âWhere food has been undercooked or is served at lukewarm temperatures, holidaymakers are at risk of suffering illness. They can lead to contracting gastroenteritis, suffering symptoms including sickness, stomach cramps, and diarrhoea.
âTour operators and hotel management should ensure that strict food and hygiene procedures are implemented  at the Hotel Costa Verde.â
âI would advise anyone who has suffered a holiday illness at this hotel to contact our holiday claims team for advice on how to make a claim for compensation.â
