Hoildaymakers returning from the Melia Cayo Santa Maria Hotel in Cuba during August 2013 are complaining on TripAdvisor of suffering from symptoms of severe food poisoning.
The Melia Cayo Santa Maria is promoted by Thomas Cook Holidays among others. This hotel is a 4 star all inclusive in a beach-front location. The hotel dining facilities include a main buffet restaurant, beach restaurant and Mediterranean, Italian, French and Japanese à la carte restaurants.
One holidaymaker who returned from the hotel in August said: âThe food was not good, some under cooked and some cold. At the snack bar we were given egg on mouldy toast.
The hotel ran out of water on two separate occasions, meaning no toilets on the complex flushed, staff were unable to wash their hands to prepare food and the whole complex became filthy in a matter of hours.â
Anne Thomson, Head of the Holiday Illness Claims Department at Farnworth Rose said: âIt is worrying to read about such appalling standards of food and hygiene at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria Hotel. Anyone who has been ill at this hotel in the past 3 years should contact us as soon as possible to discuss compensation.â
