A Portsmouth family of 4 have instructed the expert solicitors at YourHolidayClaims after their September 2017 holiday in Turkey was ruined by illness.
Craig Mason, his partner Sarah Edwards and their 2 children headed off to the five-star Trendy Lara Hotel looking forward to their first family getaway together.
Unfortunately, within a matter of days their dream holiday turned into a nightmare as 11-month-old Ernie developed a high temperature and became incredibly irritable.
As his illness progressed, Ernie developed an angry red rash over his body.
After seeing the hotel nurse, the Portsmouth family were told that Ernie had developed an allergy rash. However, after visiting a local doctor to obtain a fit to fly certificate, the family were informed that he had in fact contracted hand, foot and mouth disease.
Although Ernie was allowed to fly home, his illness ordeal was far from over. Once back in the UK, and after both a hospital and GP visit, it was confirmed that the hand, foot and mouth disease had led to dermatitis as some of the spots had become infected and were cracked and bleeding. At present, Ernie is now onto his second course of antibiotic creams as symptoms remain ongoing.
Speaking to the YHC claims experts, father Craig is certain that the hotel had prior knowledge of hand, foot and mouth disease circulating amongst its guests.
“We believe that this hotel knew about the HFMD before we arrived as they responded to Tripadvisor reports before we even got there,” he states.
“They told us it was an allergy and denied any knowledge of HFMD. We believe that Thomas Cook would also have read these reports as it is their job to know.”
He further adds that there were no posters or information sheets provided by the hotel detailing the alleged outbreak despite the reports of other infected children.
It was on their return home that the Portsmouth family of four spoke to a hand, foot and mouth disease claim expert at YourHolidayClaims.
After relating the details of their ruined trip, the family’s claim was accepted on a no win no fee basis with Litigation Executive Leigh Carroll appointed to handle their case.
Leigh said: “Hand, foot and mouth disease can be an incredibly unpleasant illness and, as in Ernie’s case, can lead to complications.
“UK package holidaymakers should expect nothing less than the highest standards of health and hygiene abroad. If you are unfortunate enough to contract a holiday illness as a result of breakdowns in hygiene standards in your package holiday hotel then you too may be eligible to bring a claim for compensation against your tour operator with help from YHC.
“In order to make your claim as strong as possible, I would always advise that you seek medical attention, report your illness and document any hygiene failings. Further information on what steps you can take can be found by clicking here.”
