We have recently received an enquiry after a holidaymaker was struck down with illness after contracting E. coli at The Grand Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.
Travelling in a party of two, the guest said they both suffered sickness and diarrhoea during their stay at the Red Sea Holidays resort requiring time off work to recover when they got home.
Other guests have taken to TripAdvisor to review their time at the hotel and complained of poor hygiene standards, stating that the chef was âthrowing food to mice and birds whilst cooking crepesâ and âspitting into a bucket as he cookedâ.
Other holidaymakers noted that the food being served was âlukewarmâ and âreheatedâ. A guest commented: âThe a la carte restaurants served your food less than three minutes after you ordered it. Everything was reheated and the chicken was grey. I would not advise eating the food in this hotel.â
A guest from Wales said that their holiday was also affected by illness, they commented: âMy partner had food poisoning from raw chicken in one of the hotel restaurants and was very poorly for most of the holiday. On complaining to the hotel and Red Sea Holidays their response was that it is totally acceptable to serve raw chicken to their guests as they are busy!â
Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, Anne Thomson, said: âIt is very concerning to read multiple reports of poor food hygiene and cleanliness issues from guests at the hotel.
âWhen hygiene standards start to slip there is a higher risk of holidaymakers becoming unwell. So its of the utmost importance that these standards are upheld to reduce this risk as much as possible.
âIf youve suffered illness at The Grand Hotel I would encourage you to call either myself or our holiday claims team to discuss whether you could make a claim.â
