A family of three from Falkirk in Scotland have instructed the specialist claims solicitors at YHC following a sickness stricken stay at the five-star Grand Bahia Principe Turquesa in the Dominican Republic.
The McNee family travelled to the Thomas Cook promoted resort in mid July 2017 and claim that their holiday was effectively ruined as father James and mother Rowena fell severely ill, suffering from illness symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
âThis was not the family holiday we had planned,â Mr McNee states.
âWe could not go on trips and our 18-year-old son was on his own for several days as we were too unwell.â
Speaking to the specialist YHC claims team, the McNees are certain that their illness was the result of poor hygiene standards at the Dominican Republic resort. They vividly recall being served hot food at lukewarm temperatures with new buffet supplies said to be added to existing rather than rotated.
Furthermore, the McNees describe both pool and room hygiene as poor.
âI dont believe the swimming pool was cleaned once during our stay,â Mr McNee comments.
âThe water was not clean and clear and there were smells emanating from the pool as well as debris in it.
âThe jacuzzi water was also cloudy with a skim visible.
âWe had to request new pillows as the ones we had smelt of vomit and the air con unit was broken, flooding water into our room.â
Since their return home, both Mr and Mrs McNee have attended their GP due to ongoing symptoms and have been diagnosed with gastric illness.
It was also on their return home that the Scottish couple wrote to tour operator Thomas Cook. Despite replying to their complaint, Thomas Cook did not offer the pair any form of compensation for their ruined stay.

Undeterred, the stricken pair contacted the Dominican Republic claims specialists at YourHolidayClaims and resolved to pursue a claim for holiday sickness, instructing Litigation Executive Danielle Burnie on a no win no fee basis.
Commenting on the case, Danielle said: âThe points the McNees have raised are most concerning. I sincerely hope that the hotel and tour operators work together in order to investigate all issues raised.
âSickness should never be an added extra in your package holiday and I would always advise anyone who is unfortunate enough to fall ill abroad to report their illness and seek medical attention.
âDocumenting hygiene failings and exchanging contact details with other afflicted hotel guests can also prove beneficial should you decide to pursue a claim for damages on your return to the UK.â
