We have received an enquiry after a couple were struck down with illness at the Hideaway Royalton in Cancun.
On holiday for two weeks, the pair both suffered illness at the five star resort and noted that they were served cold meals during their first week.
Other guests at the Thomson and First Choice promoted hotel have posted comments on TripAdvisor after they had issues with the food.
One guest said: âFood was terrible. The buffet was the same for breakfast, lunch and dinner all 7 days. The food at the restaurant was so bad it was barely edibleâ.
Another guest said they witnessed poor hygiene standards at the resort: âWe had a swim-up suite and we only went in that pool once right after it was cleaned because it was filthy all the rest of the time.
âOther guests had dropped potato chips, cigarette butts, ketchup packets, bottle corks, and some unidentified items â basically treated as a trash can. We had to constantly call to have it cleaned up. Disgusting. Our room was also poorly cleanedâ.
A recent visitor from Derbyshire also complained of illness during their stay, they said: âWe were both ill by the fifth day with diarrhoea and vomiting and this was the case with about 20 other people we spoke to, all staying at the Hideaway!
âWe found nearly all meals to be either cold or lukewarm. We hated the buffet, yes there is an enormous amount of food but again it was either cold or only just warm, we are not sure if this is what made us ill. The only other thing we could put it down to was poor hygiene in the bars where we witnessed the glasses were sometimes just rinsed under the tapâ.
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced holiday claims solicitor at Your Holiday Claims, said: âIt is always worrying when hearing about poor food hygiene standards at a hotel as this can be a cause of illness among guests.
âSo its extremely important that hotels maintain a high level of cleanliness to minimise the risk of an illness outbreak as much as possible.
âBut if you have found yourself suffering from illness while on holiday I would strongly urge you to call me or a member of our holiday claims team to find out if you would be entitled to make a claimâ.
