A couple are suing Thomson after a  nightmare cruise holiday where they contracted Norovirus.
The couple are among 50 cruise ship passengers who are suing Thomson following their trip on the ship, Island Escape.
Just two days into their holiday, the couple fell violently ill with the suspected norovirus bug and suffered symptoms of vomiting.
The couple say their holiday was ruined by illness as they had to spend most of their trip confined to hotel rooms or cabins.
Grandmother-of-three Mrs Newcombe, aged 69, said: âIve never been so ill and once we were off the ship it continued. We love Palma as we have been before, but we couldnt do anything. We had to just stay in the hotel.
âIt was supposed to be a relaxing holiday but we didnt enjoy it at all.â
On return, the couple say they were offered £400 compensation, but declined it in favour of legal action after reading other passengers experiences online.
Mr Newcombe said: âThey offered us £400 compensation once we got back, but we looked online and realised there were other people in the same situation as us. We declined the compensation and have decided to take legal action instead.â
Thomson has apologised for the Newcombes ruined holiday but defended the companys record. A spokesman said: âWe are sorry to hear of Mrs Newcombes experience on board the Island Escape.
âAs this case is now subject to legal proceedings it would be inappropriate for us to comment further.â
Tracy Stansfield, an experienced solicitor at YourHolidayClaims who specialises in claiming compensation for holiday accidents and illness, said: âNorovirus can completely ruin a holiday, and severe symptoms of diarrhoea and sickness often mean the affected parties cannot leave their rooms for days on end. Anyone who has suffered illness or injury on a cruise ship should contact us as soon as possible to discuss compensation.â
