British holidaymakers have reported falling ill at the hotel and have also made complaints about being served âlukewarmâ food at the Hilton Sharm Dreams Resort.
One holidaymaker from Wigan reported on the hotel review website TripAdvisor: âI have stayed at a number of hotels in Sharm and received excellent service and food. However, this was not my experience at the Dreams Resort.
âI didnt eat any food in the buffet restaurant that was actually hot â everything was lukewarm. At lunchtime the food just looked like the previous nights dinner. In the buffet, the quality of any meat and fish were also poor. Pink chicken and rock hard potatoes were another few of the choices on offer.â
A hotel guest from Surrey who was unable to return to the UK as said: âI first started feeling ill on Tuesday and spent nearly 24 hours in the room and from then on could hardly eat.
âWe left for the airport on the Saturday where I nearly collapsed and was seen by the doctor. I made it to the departure lounge where I was violently sick and had to see the doctor again. I was declared unfit to fly and taken to the hospital in an ambulance. I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis.â
Gastroenteritis is an infection of the bowels and is a common holiday illness suffered in package holiday hotels. Symptoms will normally include sickness, diarrhoea, and stomach cramps. Infections such as norovirus, salmonella, and campylobacter can cause the illness.
This can often be the result of holidaymakers consuming undercooked or poorly prepared food. If food handlers fail to maintain high hygiene standards, holidaymakers may be at risk of falling ill on holiday.
Anne Thomson, Head of Travel Law at Your Holiday Claims, commented: âGastric illness can not only ruin a holiday but also requiring hospital treatment and having to rearrange travel plans has the potential to cause holidaymakers a huge amount of stress and expense.
