Brits receive £350,000 in holiday illness compensation from tour operator giant First Choice

A group of 73 holidaymakers has been awarded almost £350,000 in holiday illness compensation from tour operator giant, First Choice.

The holidaymakers had been taken ill on holiday at the Tropicana Splash Resort and Aqua Park (now known as the Sea Beach Resort and Aqua Park) in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt.

A disabled grandmother, aged 71, was amongst those affected and has been awarded £13,500 compensation after suffering symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea that continued to persist on her return home.

Other members of the group are believed to have been diagnosed with salmonella food poisoning and cryptosporidium, commonly caused as a result of consuming contaminated swimming pool water.

Glenis Ludlow commented on the unsanitary conditions they were exposed to during their stay at the Tropicana Splash Resort and Aqua Park: “There were flies all around the restaurant, birds flying around and leaving droppings, and the toilets in the hotel were absolutely filthy, full of mould and dirt.”
